Cypress  Semiconductor Corp. (Nasdaq:CY), a leader in advanced embedded  solutions, has announced the launch of a new series of serial  non-volatile memory that provides superior performance and high  reliability for mission-critical data acquisition. The  ExcelonTM Ferroelectric Random Access Memory (F-RAMTM) family features  high-speed, non-volatile data logging that prevents data loss even in  harsh automotive and industrial environments and at extreme  temperatures. The  ExcelonAuto series has a car-level storage density of 2Mb to 4Mb, while  the ExcelonUltra series has an industrial-grade storage density of 4Mb  to 8Mb. Both series are available in small package options with low pin count  and are ideal for a wide range of advanced automotive and industrial  applications.

The ExcelonAuto series offers AEC-Q100 extended temperature options that meet functional safety standards (ISO 26262). The ExcelonUltra series offers 108-MHz Quad SPI performance over traditional memory. The  native NoDelayTM instant write function of the Excelon series also  eliminates the “data risk” caused by power failures that can't be  overcome by the volatile data buffer in the conventional technology, and  uses QFN packages with reduced pin counts. This  family of products operates from 1.71 V to 3.6 V and is packaged in  compliance with industry standards that are RoHS compliant and  pin-compatible with EEPROM and other non-volatile memory. All  Cypress F-RAMs have a lifetime of 100 trillion (1014) read/write  cycles. Data can be stored for 10 years at 85°C and 151 years at 65°C. Sam  Geha, executive vice president of Cypress's Memory Products Division,  said: "With the increasing deployment of semi-autonomous and  fully-autonomously driven cars, the ability of real-time vehicle data  recorders to instantly capture the latest incident data will change the  rules of the game for collision forensics. In  addition, the deployment of Industry 4.0 requires high-speed,  high-reliability data logging to ensure that the system is functioning  while increasing efficiency, and failure must not be tolerated when  dealing with these valuable data and mission critical tasks. The  new Excelon F-RAM features instant, non-volatile, high-speed,  high-durability and low-power modes that outperform other non-volatile  memories, capturing and protecting the most critical data for advanced  factory automation and industrial IoT systems. Ideal choice."

Cypress demonstrated Excelon F-RAM and its complete portfolio of  embedded system solutions at the recent Embedded Systems Expo in  Nuremberg, Germany.
